Living in Spain as an American has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life. Here are 12 things I absolutely love about living in this vibrant and diverse country, and why it’s an ideal choice for Americans looking to live abroad.

Spain’s healthcare system is one of the best in the world, offering high-quality care at a fraction of the cost of equivalent care in the U.S. As an American, I found the Spanish system to have easy access to the most modern facilities and the most skilled and caring professionals in every situation from routine check-ups to emergencies to hospital care.

2. High-Quality Education

Spain offers an excellent education system with a range of options, including highly regarded international schools. For families moving to Spain, the availability of bilingual programs and English-speaking schools ensures a smooth transition for children. The country’s emphasis on academic rigor and cultural enrichment makes it an ideal place for raising a family or pursuing lifelong learning opportunities.

3. Security and Safety

One of the things I truly appreciate about living in Spain is the incredible availability and quality of food products. Supermarkets are modern and stocked with everything you would expect in a U.S. supermarket, plus fresh, locally sourced products at prices far more affordable than in the U.S. Every town also has local markets which are another source of seasonal fruits, fresh seafood, meat, and artisanal goods.

Living in Spain opens up a world of travel opportunities. High-speed trains and budget airlines make it easy to explore Spain’s diverse regions.
